Reprise from 2009/8/20

My daughter (and reluctant webmaster!) introduced me to the idea of ‘cloud computing’ the other day. In simple form, this is doing on the web what you now do on the computer. It is a wonderful Uranus idea – bold, futuristic – and, like the computer and internet itself, ruled by Uranus.

But then there is Saturn.

Saturn has been in Virgo since the fall of 2007 and has spent a lot of time opposing Uranus in Pisces. Uranus is the new and Saturn is the old. To go forward, first you must go back.

Everyone is dealing with this old vs. new opposition at some time. I’m dealing with it from July 23 to September 5 as it rules both the eighth and ninth houses of my solar return.

While under the influence of the Uranus/Saturn opposition, it dawned on me that the floppy disk is going the way of the 8 track tape and that is a huge problem for me.

I’m a Four personality and I tend to do things the hard, slow, measured and structured way. Until recently, I was content to make astrology and numerology calculations on the software on my 13 year computer that runs Windows 95. I would then move to my 6 year old computer that runs Windows 98 and compile the text for the written charts that I offer for sale on the website. When all the pieces were in place, I would send it to a floppy and move to a computer that could communicate with the web and happily e-mail it off. Now however, I could see that I would soon be obsolete along with floppy disks unless I shifted to another system.

A little history:

I started composing the text for my written charts in the late ’70s and included a 20 to 30 page type-written chart with each consultation. (It was a ridiculous amout of work for the return but I now look at it as a period of internship that lasted several years.) After the consultation, I would take my copy of the written material, copy it and ‘cut and paste’ it — with scissors and glue — into one of several large looseleaf notebooks. As I accumulated the material, it became a little faster to compile each written chart.

The files:

I offer five different types of charts for sale on this site: basic natal chart, solar return chart, relationship chart numerology chart and baby (or youth) chart that is both astrology and numerology. All the files are on the computer but I still have to compile them and, since each chart is very individualized, almost every paragraph is a separate file. There are a lot of files.

For example: a basic astrology chart has three sections:

the Ascendant and the Planets – 11 elements and each element has 12 possibilities (i.e. Sun in Taurus or Gemini or Aquarius etc.)and each is a separate file.

the Houses – 12 houses and each house can be ruled by any of 12 signs and each is a separate file.

the Aspects – each of the 10 planets and Ascendant can be sextile, trine, square or opposition to each of the other planets and each of those possibilities is a separate file.

My 6 year old computer was supposed to be able to write CDs but that drive doesn’t work. It has a USB port but you can no longer get flash drives that are compatible with Windows 98 and it has a zip drive but who-the-heck uses a zip drive anymore? I was faced with the possibility of having to copy all of my hundreds of files onto a floppy disk and then finding a computer that could not only speak to the floppy but could also speak to the ‘net.

That is Uranus opposite Saturn – you have to go back before you go forward. Fortunately, this influence is great for discipline and focus so I am trying to get everything done before September 5 when this influence leaves and is replaced by an unaspected Neptune/Pisces influence — which will be a great time for naps.

Update: I came across this long-forgotten blog today after spending an intensive couple of weeks, again updating my files and procedures. Again with new hardware, new software. I love it all but…sheesh!

We are currently in an ‘eclipse period’—the period that begins ten days before an eclipse and ends three days after. (Solar eclipse – March 19, 2007 2:44 GMT 28 Pisces).

An eclipse period is a sensitive and intense time — like a full moon times ten — particularly if it hits something in your chart. It is not a good time to make commitments as the energy is changing and what seems so important now will shift. There will be surprises.

Both of Prince Charles’ weddings were in eclipse periods. He married Diana two days before an eclipse and was supposed to marry Camilla the day of another eclipse but postponed that wedding to attend the funeral of Pope John Paul.

There is a lunar and a solar eclipse approximately every six months. We compare the degree of the eclipse to any given chart and can see a strong effect that will continue until the next set of eclipses.

In August of 1979 there was a solar eclipse that exactly (within one degree) squared the sun on my father’s chart. During the eclipse period, I had a series of three powerful dreams that foretold his death four months later.

Jim Berkland at www.syzygyjob.com has made a career out of earthquake prediction and uses the moon as one of
the more important factors, particularly new moons, full moons and eclipses.

The Lunar eclipse on March 3, 2007 was 13 degrees Virgo, less than two degrees from the ‘nadir’ in the chart for Indonesia (which represents the physical land) and square the Ascendant. Indonesia was struck by a large earthquake less than 3 days later.

Indonesia Natal Chart

Astrologer Buzz Meyers placed a great deal of emphasis on the eclipse that occurs before birth, maintaining the eclipses were times when the energy field around the earth was disrupted and the souls of those about to be born ‘came to earth’. Expectant parents may dream about their babies during this time.

Buzz said that if the eclipse was months before the birth, the new soul had time to assess the situation and choose an environment that would support what he was coming to accomplish.

If the eclipse was close to the birth, the soul has rushed into this life and may not have properly processed his last incarnation. He may not have the time to properly assess his birth parents and environment and may find that he spends a long time overcoming their effects before he can move on to his original goals. I found this particularly interesting to me as I was born the day of an eclipse!

Buzz said that there may be a ‘nightmare syndrome’ as the child has brought trauma with him into this life and is still trying to process it. There might also be a feeling of rushing toward something , a feeling of destiny or that there was something very important that they had come into this life to do. I was strongly effected by years of nightmares as a child and tormented with the feeling that there was something I was ‘supposed’ to be doing. The something turned out to be astrology but I didn’t find that out until I was in my mid-thirties.

The next lunar eclipse is August 28 (4 Pisces) and the next solar eclipse is September 11 (18 Virgo).

I was very happy today to notice that Mars has crossed my Ascendant which should mean I should have more physical energy now.

Mars has been in the 12th house for a month so my anger, drive, ambition, passion, energy have been centered in the sub-conscious. It does help to explain why the things that have drawn my interest lately are 12th house subjects … UFO’s, animal communication, dreams. (Art Bell on Coast to Coast AM has some incredible shows lately!)

Mars is very much physical, wordly energy and does not work well in the 12th house or when it connects with Neptune. The most irritating aspect is that it makes me feel drained of energy yet unable to sleep well.

I was fairly hopeful that there would be some positive changes and indeed there were.

First, I found this lovely new format. I knew it was in the works but I was still very pleasantly surprised. It was a huge job to convert everything.

The second surprise was that my lovely webmaster (daughter Kristine) had set up a second website for me with a name I had mentioned months earlier. This site will deal with what astrology isn’t and, more importantly, what astrology is. It will be up and running very shortly.

The third surprise was that all of this was in a format the I cannot change myself. I don’t have the right hardware or software (or knowledge, talent, patience etc.)

I have always felt I should ‘help’ — I’m a helpful person — but life will be much simpler now that I can’t help and I can concentrate on my part, the astrology.

I love my birthday! There’s a fresh burst of fresh energy and all-new influences.

The month or so before the birthday is not a time of physical, real world energy. (Think how often you hear — ‘he would have turned X number of years old next week’ as part of an obituary.) It is for resting and dreaming letting the sub-conscious do its thing. I can zone out with the best of them but I get tired of waiting to start new things.

Personal Year

Because my birthday comes so close to New Year’s, my Personal Year changes about the same time as everything else.

This year is a Six for me…attention to emotional connections and being of service. It is also one of my missing numbers so there will be complications I am sure.

Last year, being a Five, was time to shake things up, get a glimpse of the final results of this nine year cycle and eliminate those things that are not part of that final goal.

I think I know what I have left behind but it is too early to say. As soon as I say “That is one thing I will never do!”, I find that ‘that’ is exactly what I need to do.

Essence

The Essence is the birthday-to-birthday numerological influence. I am so very happy that my Essence for this next year and the three years after that will be a One. This is excellent for strong forward action and has always worked well for me.

Last year’s Essence was a Six and the four years before that were Eight. The Six and Eight are my two Karma numbers so I have had five years of lesson after lesson after lesson. After lesson.

Solar return

I am very interested to see how this year works out. My Solar Return chart is ruled by Jupiter square Uranus which indicates change and radical new energy. It can be good fortune but it can also be restlessness and impatience.

My Solar Return Sun is in the Second house of money, possessions and self worth and is well aspected so that hopefully indicates a welcome upturn in financial affairs.

Does George W. really talk to God? Does understanding why I do astrology help explain why GWB goes to war?

Astrological Tenet – Sun in the Twelfth house suggests the individual will attempt to live out the unrealized dreams of the father. The urge or compulsion to fulfill this destiny comes from the very deep sub-conscious and does not refer to dreams that have been discussed on a conscious, verbal level. The individual will usually not understand where the urge is coming from.

George W. Bush

For a week or two after the election George W. Bush looked subdued and his tone changed slightly. There was some speculation that he would change course because the nation was so obviously against the status quo but, by the time of the NATO conference in Riga at the end of November, he was back in his old form, saying the same things that he was saying before the election.

Is GWB fulfilling his father’s destiny by waging war in Iraq…is he finishing what his father did not? He says over and over again that the American forces can’t leave until they ‘finish the job’ but claims that he is not doing it because of his father.

GWB has his Sun in the Twelfth house of his astrology chart. One of the things that happens with this placement is that he takes on the ‘unrealized dreams’ of the father. This does not happen on a conscious level — it happens deep in the subconscious. He is strongly led to do something and, with GWB’s belief, this is God speaking to him. God told him to do it. How could he say no?

<img src="http://www.thereluctantastrologer.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/publication1b.jpg" alt="George W.

Dayel Kirk: Twelfth House

Me

My Twelfth House is remarkably similar to Bush’s. Spookily similar!

When I first heard that having the Sun in the Twelfth meant taking on the unrealized dreams of the father, I considered that was one of those exceptions that prove the rule because it sure didn’t apply to me.

All through my twenties, I felt there was something I was supposed to be doing and I couldn’t figure out what that was. I would go through a painful learning experience and I would think “Good, I’ll need to know about that later.” Since I didn’t know why I would need to know it, it drove me crazy!

When I ‘found’ astrology three years after the death of my father, I felt a huge wave of relief because I knew that this what I was supposed to do.

Why was I supposed to do it? I didn’t know. I assumed it had something to do with past lifetimes or karma or something. The ‘why’ wasn’t important to me. This was something I had to do despite personal reservations and the opposition of everyone around me .

About a year ago — twenty-five years after the death of my father– my sister found a letter that he had written to my mother before they were married and five years before I was born. In it he said that he would like to study astrology but realized that it was a lifetime’s work.

The father I knew was a chemist. When we talked about esoteric subjects, he said that he had seen very strange things with his own eyes (his mother was a spiritualist) but had consciously decided to concentrate on ‘reality’.
