Dramatic Turn for Kurt Browning

The premise of this blog has always been to write about those events that make me curious enough to cast a chart. Last week’s fire at the home of figure skating champion, Kurt Browning and his wife, Sonia Rodriguez, a principal dancer with the National Ballet of Canada was one of those events: an ordinary day that suddenly morphs into one that changes lives.

Browning was trying to dry the seats of his convertible with a leaf blower that he propped up against the car — unconventional perhaps, but nothing that would raise red flags. He had stepped away briefly and, when he returned and saw the fire, it was too late to save the house from damage estimated to be around a million dollars.

Before the fire, an astrologer would not have said ‘your house is going to be destroyed by fire’ but rather:

From the Natal chart: nothing happens unless the potential for the event appears in the original birth chart. Browning has Pluto, the ruler of his Fourth house (home, emotional roots) in the First, right next to Uranus, the planet that represents dramatic change. This all means that Browning’s home and emotional roots are an integral and visible part of his personality and that, from time to time, dramatic events would occur that would change everything.
From the Solar Return: Pluto is the most visible planet in the Solar return because it is located at the top of the chart. It is opposite the Sun and square Uranus, Jupiter and Saturn so it was bound to be a year when Browning’s emotional base was dramatically changed.
From the Secondary Progression: this is the chart where the Moon is the element to watch. It moves about a degree a month, taking about 2 1/2 years to go through each sign and about 30 years to go all the way around the chart. At the time of the fire, Browning’s SP Moon was inconjunct Uranus and Pluto, the two planets that promised occasional shake-up in the original birth chart.
From the Solar Arc Progression: this chart is created by moving each of the elements of the birth chart approximately one degree per year. In the chart, the Uranus/Pluto combo is inconjunct Saturn, showing a current need for dramatic adjustment to structures and patterns.
Current Transits: Uranus, the shake-up planet, is square Browning’s two most personal planets, the Sun and the Moon, something that happens once in 42 years and means he is undergoing a personal transformation. Uranus is also next to Saturn, again showing that it is time for structures and patterns that have served their purpose to make way for new patterns.

This is definitely an upsetting and stressful time for Browning and his family but it is one of those situations that he may one day look back on and say ‘ You know, I wouldn’t wish that time on anyone but, if I hadn’t gone through it, I wouldn’t be doing ‘X’ now.

Anderson Cooper

Anderson Cooper is a Gemini. He is endlessly curious and a great communicator. The fine-boned, youthful appearance, often associated with Gemini, works very well on television.

Mercury (the planet that rules Gemini) is in Cancer. It is impossible for AC to separate heart from head which makes him such a soulful communicator.

Mercury sits in the Ninth house, which rules those things that expand the mind — other countries, nationalities, religions, higher education — and indicates a perpetual student and explorer. (full chart)

AC’s ascendant is in Libra so he approaches new situations with a desire to be pleasant and diplomatic.

The question raised in the last blog was whether Anderson Cooper is in danger now because of the time spent near the gulf where airborn pollutants are reported to be at dangerous levels.

These pollutants would be represented by Neptune and Pluto.

Neptune, in AC’s Solar return, is conjunct the ascendant and opposite Mars, which is an indication of possible threat. It is six house/twelfth house so it involves that-which-is-hidden and work and health issues.
His secondary progressed Moon is conjunct his natal Neptune. This is a time of extreme sensitivity; both emotionally and to everything in the environment.
His Solar Arc Neptune is opposite his Mercury — a creative, sensitive, inspirational time that may also be confusing.
Solar Arc Saturn opposite his Neptune represents physical reality vs. dreams and illusions.
AC also has Pluto opposite Mercury. In most people, Pluto opposite Mercury in a period of time when what you think and communicate is strongly challenged, often forcing and whole new direction in interests. With AC, it is that and, because Mercury rules his Gemini Sun, it is also a personal challenge. (Any Pluto transit demands that you become stronger than you ever thought you wanted to be!)

All of these current influences are once-in-a-lifetime (except secondary progressed Moon which is once in approximately 30 years). All of them are potentially life-changing and all of them indicate this is a period of vulnerability.

Al and Tipper Gore – Going their separate ways after forty years

How does a couple that has been married for over forty years decide to divorce?

THE BIRTH CHARTS

Both of the Gores are currently experiencing dramatic transits that affect their relationship:

Al Gore has Pluto conjunct his Moon, an influence that occurs once in 248 years. This is a powerful period of emotional rebirth and, since the Moon represents all we are at a core level, many things in Al Gore’s life will change, particularly his relationship with women, his home, and what he needs for emotional comfort.
Tipper Gore’s Seventh or relationship house is ruled by Saturn. This means that there were karmic conditions connected to her choice of marriage partner. Neptune is now opposite Saturn in her chart, a once-in-84-year influence that ‘dissolves’ these conditions. This is ultimately freeing but can be very disorienting as Saturn feels like our realty .

THE RELATIONSHIP

The relationship chart is the chart created for the mid-point in time and space between the two natal charts and can be used for timing events, just as each individual chart can be used.

Before going retrograde, Pluto had moved to oppose Mercury in the relationship. In this case, Mercury not only represents communication, but both rules and occupies the Seventh or relationship house.
The Solar Return for the relationship has Pluto on the Nadir, squaring the ascendant/descendant and opposing the mid-heaven, indicating a transformation of literally everything in the relationship.
Just in case there is any doubt, Uranus, the planet that also represents dramatic transformation is on the descendant of the Solar return, square the mid-heaven/nadir and opposite the ascendant, again changing literally everything in the relationship.
A point of interest that perhaps only astrologers will find fascinating is that the ascendant, descendant, mid-heaven and nadir are all ‘0′ degrees of a cardinal sign. It truly is time for new beginnings!

The relationship that the Gore’s have experienced to this point is over. It needs to re-form, encapsulating all of the new energies in each of them and in the relationship itself.

Sandra Bullock & Jesse James – with a warning

This weekend (in one of those synchronistic occurrences that get astrologers all excited) I found the birth data for James on the same day that I discovered that my new Solar Fire software did a wonderful job of synastry analysis AND noticed that today is Jesse James birthday! (Happy Birthday Jesse!) I have had all of Sandra’s charts sitting on my computer for a month but I just couldn’t get myself to write about her and the current unfortunate situation. Maybe this is what I was waiting for.

A synastry analysis is one of many relationship techniques. It shows the positive aspects and the challenges in a relationship. Many of the elements appear contradictory but all are valid and are emphasized at different times.

Sandra’s Moon Square Jesse’s Neptune

Romance is a major theme in a union that involves the Moon and the planet Neptune. With this combination of planets Sandra and Jesse both feel that they are meant to be together. Perhaps they believe that it is a union of their souls. This is the height of romantic love. However, with romantic love there is always the possibility of disillusionment. Sandra and Jesse are likely to stumble across obstacles in this relationship because of unrealistic and overly idealistic expectations of each other. It is difficult for them to maintain the heights of love first attained at the beginning of the relationship. Misunderstandings can easily arise. After the first flush of love Sandra feels that her emotional needs are being ignored, that Jesse does not understand her. It is even possible that Sandra feels that Jesse is being deceptive in some manner. There is a danger that Jesse does feel the need to hide behind a facade, failing to be his true self. Perhaps Jesse feels that he cannot live up to Sandra’s expectations. Despair within this relationship needs to be avoided by both Sandra and Jesse facing their feelings of loss in previous relationships. They need to face the problems honestly in order to avoid the breakdown of trust and ultimately the relationship. As a result Sandra and Jesse may be able to recapture their sense of belonging together which was so strong in the initial stages of their union.

Warning for Sandra and Jesse

The Sandra Bullock and Jesse James synastry chart shows both the attractions and the complications. It is an extremely volatile relationship and does include the possibility of violence — not unlike many other passionate pairings. There have been some reports that Sandra is fearful and hiring bodyguards etc. — a good idea while everything is so intense.

One danger right now is that the current Uranus/Saturn opposition is aggravating some of the flash points in the two charts and involves both depressive and impulsive elements.

The other worry that James’ Solar Return for today’s birthday has 16 Sagittarius on the Ascendant, the same degree as his birth Mars – the planet most associated with anger and rash action.

Larry King’ Eighth Divorce

Larry King and his seventh wife both filed for divorce on Wednesday to end their 13-year marriage. (It is his eighth marriage and his seventh wife as he married one woman twice.)

Why would someone marry eight times?

King’s Seventh (Marriage house) is ruled by the Moon, the most fickle of all indicators. This usually indicates more than one marriage or frequent changes in the nature of any marriage or partnership.

To complicate matters, this fickle Moon is in Sagittarius, sign of the gypsy, the wanderer, the adventurer, the endlessly curious.

Last year, Uranus was square to King’s Moon, a once-in 42-year period when old emotional patterns are broken and changes are felt in any relationship, particularly any relationship with women. Although this square has passed, it was active at the time of his Solar Return and so would affect the current year.

There is another Uranus Square in King’s Solar Arc Progression. Both SA progressed Uranus and Pluto square his natal Venus, the planet that rules marriage and one of the three relationship planets (Moon, Venus, Mars). This Pluto/Uranus/Venus square is a once-in-a-lifetime influence that last approximately two years and, in this case, is doubly important as it repeats a pattern in his birth chart.

A Uranus transit feels like ‘I don’t want to do this anymore and I don’t even remember why it used to be important’. It is the mid-life crazy influence. Life after a Uranus transit is usually a better reflection of the true spirit.

A Pluto transit feels like a violent storm or earthquake. It is frightening because everything changes. Life after a Pluto transit is also a better reflection of the inner self after a painful scraping away of personality layers that have been built to camouflage the soul.

David Beckham – the end of a beautiful career

MILAN, Italy — David Beckham will miss the World Cup and most if not all the Los Angeles Galaxy season after tearing his left Achilles’ tendon Sunday while playing for AC Milan.

PLUTO
My first thought was Pluto and Pluto’s often ruthless power of transformation. A Pluto transit indicates that is time for new conditions and can seem catastrophic in nature.

Pluto is not affecting Beckham’s chart by transit but it is by Solar Arc Progression where it has moved to oppose his Sun. (Just out of curiousity, I checked what happened when Pluto was in the same position by transit and it was 1987, when he first started to play league soccer.)

MID-HEAVEN (Career)
By Solar Arc Progression Beckham’s Mid-Heaven changed signs (a once-in-30 year occurrence) approximately 6 weeks ago. Since the Mid-Heaven represents his position in the world and rules the house of career, a change in direction would be expected. The new sign is Pisces which rules fantasy, illusion, magic, glamour, movies, etc. Neptune, the ruler of Pisces is located in the partnership house so perhaps Beckham will continue to work with his wife as in this Armani campaign.

Brangelina – is it over – and does it matter?

Whether or not the relationship between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is ‘over’ matters to the rest of us because it is an example of the challenges of relating in this intense time.

We are close to the end of a 24,000 year cycle and it is time to ‘finish’ things, to resolve karmic situations that may have existed for many, many lifetimes. (The cycle ends December 21, 2012)

We aren’t starting new things in this lifetime. We don’t have decades to work through unfamiliar situations. We are drawn to those activities and those individuals we have known before and with whom we have unfinished business. The energy is there for a quick resolution to old and tangled connections. Relationships at this time are intense, immediate and may be short-lived as old conditions are released.

The challenge for Brad and Angelina is that they have six children and there has been nothing in either of their personalities to indicate that they would walk away from these responsibilities. If they cannot relate to each other in a traditional form, they have to construct a relationship that will allow their children to thrive.

RELATIONSHIP CHART

The Brangelina Relationship Solar Return has Uranus and Saturn opposite each other at 24 Pisces and 24 Virgo, with 24 Virgo being the location of Pluto in the original relationship chart. This is blasting away old formats and transforming into new. There is an incredible amount of energy in these aspects and the challenge is to direct this energy into constructive channels.

Tiger Woods is surely hoping someone else will do something really stupid and get him off the front pages. Unfortunately, the event seems to have reached some sort of tipping point and women who have never even seen him in person are soon going to grab their 15 minutes in front of the camera, claiming to be yet another mistress.

Uranus, the planet that really shakes everything up, was stationary and squaring his moon when the driveway incident occurred. It is now moving forward and affecting his marriage (conj Descendant), career and reputation (square Mid-heaven). It may even mean a change of residence for Tiger as anything that squares the Mid-heaven is also squaring the Nadir (home, emotional roots)

A Uranus transit insists that you be true to what you really are meant to be and is very destructive if you haven’t been living honestly, especially if you have been fooling yourself about what your life is about.

Tiger’s behaviour is a tad shocking to us because we associate him with the strict discipline and control of a Virgo Ascendant. Virgo is ruled by Mercury and his Mercury in Capricorn opposite Saturn shows his famous reserve and cool demeanor.

Tiger’s Moon though is in the sign of Sagittarius – warrior, gypsy, vagabound, free spirit – and his Venus is in Scorpio so he really wants intensity, passion and maybe a little of the dark side in his romantic adventures. This may be one of those times when one part of the chart has been allowed to dominate to the point where other parts do not mature with the personality. Many Capricorns think that what they feel is not near as important as what they should feel.

The Seventh house describes intimate one-to-one relationships such as marriage and particularly describes a first marriage. Tiger’s Seventh house is ruled by Pisces so he may have been unrealistic when he thought he found the woman that he wanted to marry. Neptune, the ruler of Pisces is opposite Mars and Mars/Neptune combinations are very messy. There is a feeling of kinship and magic but the motives of both parties are unclear and may be deceptive. Anger is so difficult to deal with and may explode into frustration and/or violence.

You can immediately tell that this is a turning point year as the wheel of the solar return is so similar to the birth chart. Virgo is again rising and Virgo’s ruler Mercury is again in Capricorn. This time Mercury, the planet of communication, is next to Jupiter which generally means ‘too much’ and I am sure Tiger feels now that there was too much communicating going on!

It is also a significant year when planets are on the angles of the Solar Return. In this case, the Saturn/Vertex opposition (fated encounter) is on the Ascendant/Descendant line and a Pluto/Mars conjunction is on the Nadir and opposite the mid-heaven (very powerful forces or conditions challenge his position in the world.

Tiger Woods

If you have an accident in your driveway at 2:30 in the morning – and you don’t drink – you are going to start rumors!

Tiger Woods was injured in an accident in his driveway on Friday, November 25 at 2:25 am.

Mercury (communication and short trips) was 17 Sagitarius, opposite Mars (anger, passion, and ego) — so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him involved in either an argument or an accident. 17 Sag is also the mid-point between the Moon and Neptune, so the ‘incident’ likely had to do with a woman as both Moon and Neptune are associated with the feminine.

Uranus was stationary at 22 Pisces 42, square to Wood’s Moon and conjunct his Descendant, and has been back and forth around that point for several months.

Uranus square the Moon is a time when jolts and surprises move one out of old emotional patterns.

Uranus on the Descendant is a time when people come into your life, often for just a short period, and act as the catalyst for dramatic changes.

Mackenzie Phillips – is it true?

In an interview on Oprah, Phillips revealed that she was involved in an incestuous relationship with her father for 10 years and that he was the one who first injected her with drugs.

Many people, including her step-mother, have already stepped forward to say that she is lying.

Was she telling the truth?

Mackenzie Phillips was born November 10, 1959 at 9:35 pm (Alexandria, VA 77W03, 38N48)

In an astrology chart, the parents are represented by the 4th and 10th houses. Either parent can be either house (and it probably goes back and forth at various stages of life) but, in this case, Phillips father would surely be the 10th house as he had such a strong influence in her career issues.

Mackenzie Phillips’ 10th house is ruled by Mars, the planet of ego, energy, anger, sex. Her Mars is located in her 4th house, (the home) right next to the Sun – which represents the father – and Neptune which represents illusion, fantasy, escapism, confusion, deception.

In the interview with Oprah, Phillips said her father ‘had no boundaries’ — the Sun/Neptune conjunction effect.

A Mars/Neptune conjunction is often present in a ‘victim’s’ chart. Its location in the 4th house shows where the victimization occurs — the home.

With years of drug abuse and just plain hard living, Phillips’ memory is undoubtedly not 100% accurate, but her chart supports both the drug and abuse allegations.

Why now?

Why the book? Why the interviews? Pluto, the most powerful planet is now sitting on Mackenzie Phillips’ Saturn. Saturn represents the father and the family structures as well as the ‘reality’ that has been constructed.

Pluto conjunct Saturn is an incredibly intense transit. The effect is to obliterate what is no longer necessary or helpful and appears, in the moment, to be totally destructive. It is ultimately freeing.

ElsaElsa has a birth chart for Phillips and also shows the transits about the time that the ‘affair’ ended. It is interesting to note that that is when powerful Pluto was conjunct Mars and the ‘death and transformation’ process would be applied to sexual issues.
