Obama and the Reverend

Jeremiah A. Wright, pastor of Chicago’s United Church of Christ and long term pastor and friend to Barack Obama, is the center of a news storm as a result of several nationally broadcast appearances.
Wright’s dramatic manner of preaching is his Mercury in Libra, next to his Moon, opposite Mars and trine Jupiter.
>> Mercury (communication) in Libra indicates is a diplomatic and attractive manner of speaking.
>> Mercury conjunct the Moon is intellect and emotion completely meshed.
>> Mercury opposite Mars is the stirring, even bombastic manner.
>> Mercury trine Jupiter means that, as he gets warmed up, his manner of speaking becomes more expansive, more dramatic.
Right now, Wright is experiencing Pluto square the Sun, a time when the ego goes through a ‘death and rebirth’ process as a result of power struggles.
Obama and Wright
Obama and Wright are close, very close. Wright would feel like a father or teacher to Obama (W’s Saturn conjunct O’s Moon) and there is a profound, intuitive, spiritual, love connection (W’s Venus conjunct O’s Neptune – same degree). There is also a same-degree conjunction between Wright’s Uranus and Obama’s Moon that is exciting, unpredictable and sometimes emotionally jarring to Obama.
Obama/Wright Synastry
The synastry between Obama and Wright shows a lot of positive aspects – so many trines! Most of the difficult aspects are ones that you see in the synastry of parents and their children and have to do with the ‘new’ versus the ‘old’.
There are also a lot of Venus squares. Venus squares are not difficult but represent ‘too much’ or ‘over’…over-indulgence, over-spending, over-eating etc. In synastry, it is too people who trust too much, let too much slide, indulge each other too much. It is such a pleasant feeling to be together that it is very difficult to deal with substantive issues.
